Simone Scaletta

A small, familiy-run winery

Simone produces about 35000 bottles per year exploiting six hectars of vineyards located nearby our cellar in Monforte d’Alba. Viglioni, Sarsera, Autin‘d Madama and Chirlet are his four vineyards which also give the name to his wines. Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo and Barolo are wines rich of personality and character, made by natural vinification, which follow several decantings at the right moment and a slow fining, without filtering, giving a balanced, authentic and natural evolution.

Thanks to the small dimensions of the winery he is able to look after products quality with the needed care and attention. Simone’s idea of wine follows below.

The wine he make springs from a never ending Love for the Land, from the curvy hills of the Langhe area, with all its charm, youthful but ancient as well as its extraordinary generosity. When we drink wine, it can express what the earth is capable of so accurately and it recalls the territory it grows in so wholly that we are transported to where it was made, with its climate, its history and the traditional customs it is steeped in.

As a wine producer, his philosophy is based on Respect for the land. All his efforts go into the use of natural techniques which favor manual labor and natural agronomic methods, while keeping mechanical intervention at a minimum in the vineyard. He tries to practice a type of viticulture which is extra careful about the soil quality, the area biodiversity, the environmental sustainability as well as preserving the landscape. As a matter of fact, he has made a studied choice not to use weedkillers, to use green manure and to eliminate systemic products in the vineyard.

He loves following the natural rhythms of the vines, looking after them daily and working on every need, so that He don’t resort to a fixed calendar but he works according to the rhythm of nature. In his view, following a standard protocol shared with vast territories and typical situations, which fails to take different varieties of soils and climatic conditions into account, does not consist in a conscious and aware production of wine.
